Virgin Media TV Anywhere is a mix of live TV channels and on-demand films and TV, available free to all Virgin subscribers via web browsers, or apps on smartphones and tablets.
The web browser experience includes TiVo-style features such as searching for TV shows and films via cast and crew, smart recommendations, and 4,000 hours of on-demand films and TV. TiVo users can also use it to manage their recordings and preferences, while non-TiVo subscribers will see these options teasingly greyed-out.
The TV Anywhere app is exclusive to TiVo subscribers, with the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch edition live now and an Android edition due in 2013. It offers live channels via WiFi, with on-demand to be added in 2013.
Virgin TV Anywhere offers up to 45 live streaming TV channels, depending on your subscription, although the Sky Movies and and Sky Sports channels are currently only available on the web not in the app. Virgin plans to expand this selection in 2013.
The browser edition has around 4,000 hours of on-demand films and TV shows, which will also be available in 2013 on the iPad and other apps. The app can only stream live TV if you have a WiFi connection (or on-demand when that’s added).

If you have more than one TiVo box, there’s no limit to how many TV Anywhere can control, and you can also use it to rename them so they’re easier to identify.
If you’re using the mobile/tablet app as a remote control on your home network, each TiVo can only be controlled by one device at a time.
There’s no need to connect to your router to use the live streaming, on-demand and remote management features from your PC/Mac, or from your mobile device when you’re outside the home, as your TiVo has a built-in connection to Virgin already.
To use the TV Anywhere app as a remote control within the home, you will need to connect your TiVo via Ethernet to your Superhub, so that both devices are on the same local network.
If your Superhub is not located near to your TiVo, or it doesn’t have any spare Ethernet ports, the Virgin Media Accessories store offers Powerline Ethernet extenders, while Ethernet switches are widely available.

With the Virgin TV Anywhere app you can use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch for just about everything you can do with a TiVo remote control - from flicking through channels to recording your favourite shows.
1. On your iPhone, iPad or iPhone touch open the App Store
2. Search ‘Virgin TV Anywhere’ and install the free app
3. Once the app has installed tap the icon to launch it
4. Choose the TiVo box you want to control from the Select a TiVo box menu
5. If the app can’t find your TiVo box, simply tap Away Access
6. The first time you use Away Access, you’ll need to enter your My Virgin Media username and password
7. Tick the Stay Signed In box so that you don’t have to enter your details each time you use Virgin TV Anywhere
Note: Before you can use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with your TiVo box you first need to make sure the latter is connected to your Virgin Media router. You’ll also need to wirelessly connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to the box.
To access My Virgin Media you need to create a username and password. It only takes a few minutess and once you’ve done it you’ll be able to manage your account online, as well as use Virgin Media Mail and download useful apps. You can register or get help if you’ve forgotten your password on the Virgin Media website.
Before you can watch programmes on Virgin TV Anywhere you need to register the devices you’ll be using you can register a maximum of two devices per household. Virgin TV Anywhere works on PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPod touch.
1. Go to Virgin TV Anywhere and sign in with your My Virgin Media username and password
2. The first time you try to watch something the Virgin TV Anywhere registration page will automatically open in a new web browser window
3. Click Register on one of the available device slots. You can give each device a name - for example, ‘Michael’s iPhone’ or ‘My iPad’
4. Click Done and your device should be registered
5. If you’ve already registered two devices, you’ll need to delete one to make a slot available for a device you haven’t used with Virgin TV Anywhere before
Note: If you’re using an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you first need to connect your TiVo box to the device.
You can use Virgin TV Anywhere either at home or while you’re out and about.
Away Access - Using Virgin TV Anywhere on the go means you can watch TV live and on-demand, as well as managing your TiVo recordings. All you need is a public Wi-Fi hotspot. You can also use Virgin TV Anywhere this way at home over wireless broadband.
Home Access - When your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is connected to the same network as your TiVo box you can also use the device like an advanced TiVo remote control. You can also do everything that’s possible with Away Access too.
